The two free games from Amazon finally arrived on the 20th last Tuesday. It was a bit of a hassle - I had to pay for them on the Amazon.co.uk site and they refunded the money back.<br />

Not very eco-friendly I guess but I am so happy on finally getting my hands on the Wii that I don't really care much. Some hard core gamers to get the XBox or the PS3 but I want something the whole family can play together with and I can now understand why the Nintendo Wii appeals so much to families. It is something that brings the whole family and friends together, something that you can play along with your kids and still enjoy and it has in fact brought the game console out into the living room.<br />

</div>This is my blog's QR Code. This is a two-dimensional symbology which was developed by <a href="http://www.denso-wave.com/qrcode/index-e.html">Denso Wave</a> in 1994. It is an improvement on the widely used bar code as it is easily read and contains information in both the vertical and horizontal directions and is really popular in Japan.<br />

You can download the trial edition of QR Code/Bar code generation software on the Denso Wave site or you can generate your own QR code at <a href="http://qrcode.kaywa.com/">Kaywa.com</a>. <br />

If you want to read QR codes, all you need is your mobile (with camera) and the <a href="http://reader.kaywa.com/">Kaywa reader</a>. Just download the reader, scan by taking a picture and you then get the info on your mobile. According to a recent study, online ad expenditure has overtaking TV for the first time in the UK. This is quite remarkable considering the fact that the overall ad spending has contracted due to the current economic climate.<br />
<br />
The UK Online Adspend Study Results for the half year to June 2009 was carried out by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the World Advertising Research Centre (WARC). FYI, the IAB is the trade body for digital marketing here.<br />
<br />
The study shows that internet advertising grew by 4.6% to £1,752.1 million. It was revealed that most marketing budgets went to Paid-for search which was growing. This made up £1.1bn or 62.6% of all online advertising expenditure. <br />
<br />
I wonder whether this growth is due to the fact that Internet advertising is much cheaper/ cost effective than offline advertising in traditional media. <br />

This is a very old topic among online marketers and I actually posted about it some time back. Read "<a href="http://www.adamok.net/2009/03/does-google-pr-matter.html">Does Google PR matter?</a>"<br /><br />However, I have to bring it up again. The reason is that several potential marketers keep asking me about my blog Google PR. For those who did not know PR stands for 'Page Rank'.<br /><br />Right now my blog's Google PR is 3/10. I know it doesn't sound very impressive but you might be surprised to learn that my blog has the same rank as top Malaysian blogger - <a href="http://www.kennysia.com/">Kenny Sia</a>. But that's where the similarities end. Kenny had an Alexa rank (another web ranking system) of 49,243 when I last checked while my blog is 338,261. Yes! It's higher. But unlike the Google page ranking system, in Alexa rankings, a smaller number is better. He also receives an average of 12,065 visits a day. I won't even reveal mine. Let's just say is way below his number and has fallen tremendously ever since I reduced the frequency of my postings on this blog.<br /><br />I promise to start blogging religiously once I complete my PhD and I have more free time.<br /><br />Coming back to the topic at hand, I guess it's beneficial for me to advertise my Google PR rather than Alexa, while I work on increasing the traffic to my blog.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/25440775-8835463234123031651?l=www.adamok.net'/></div>

When I initially heard about white noise machines, the first thing that came to mind was the horror movie "White noise" where a guy tries to contact his dead wife from beyond the grave.<br /><br />Anyway, I later learnt that White noise sound machines are special devices that produce specific type of sounds that help to mask unpleasant noises. Of late my old <a href="http://www.adamok.net/2008/01/cheap-dell-pc.html">Dell Inspiron 530</a> has been feeling a bit sluggish, especially when I run memory hungry applications like SPSS, the statistical software. Starting up seemed to take ages and opening up several windows would cause the system to hang as well.<br /><br />The PC only had 1GB RAM when I bought it and I deduced the low RAM to be the cause of these problems I had been facing.<br /><br />The first place I went to look was of course, <a href="http://www.ebay.co.uk/">eBay</a>. There were some great deals but I didn't have the patience to watch, bid and wait. I somehow got to the <a href="http://www.crucial.com/uk/">Crucial site</a>. One of the problems with buying RAM is the fact that different systems use different types of RAM. Moreover, you should know the maximum RAM that your system can take. I really liked the Crucial site because you can use their System Scanner tool to scan your PC and get recommended upgrades. However, I used their 3 step Memory Advisor tool. The PC hasn't hanged even once and I have no problems running SPSS either.<br /><br />I also had a problem with Firefox whereby it would suddenly hang. After closing it, I couldn't open it again and a warning would pop up<br />"Close Firefox: A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time."<br /><br />Apparantly this is a <a href="https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox is already running but is not responding">known issue</a> in Firefox. I tried all the possible solutions given. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the problem would not go away.<br /><br />However, ever since I upgraded the RAM, I haven't had any problems with Firefox anymore.
