I came into office today in a bloddy bad mood because it was the second morning in a row that I got stuck in a lousy jam on the AYE, both due to minor accidents caused by careless drivers... I ' m constantly peeved at how a single minor accident can heavily disrupt the traffic flow for hours... later on while I was still in my foul mood, my colleague gave me a piece of good news ~ some SQL that had suddenly stopped working for a totally unknown reason has started working again!... The DBA updated some backend Oracle stats last night, and the optimizer kicked back into action... … View Post »

Ok, I ' ve had half a night and half a day to fully immerse myself in the Microsoft Reclusa experience, and here are my additional comments: The keys, although heavy, have a very nice tactile response... I might not get the feeling that my fingers can really fly across the keyboard when I type, but I do get a solid and..... I miss having a keyboard LCD screen, but it ' s silly because my G15 LCD screen was closed like 90% of the time... like the flat, silver volume control dial... I still think Razer should update its software to include better macro support... My G15 gave me a feeling like I was a pilot with a big control panel... The now detached wrist rest causes me a bit of inconvenience, and doesn ' t look as pretty versus if it were attached, but the soft faux leather feels much better than the plastic G15 wrist rest... Never thought I could write so much about keyboards :D Update : Oh I do have one more point... … View Post »

Frankly, I think I ' m a bit cuckoo to get so attached a keyboard... I ' ve never had a keyboard fail on me before, in such a short period of time (close to two years), no less... Anyway, polarbear and I dropped by SLS today (yesterday) to check out the gaming keyboards on offer... I was deliberating between the new orange Logitech G15 and the Microsoft Reclusa.... The wrist rest has a really nice texture, but the area under my left wrist curves in and is too small... I like the positioning of the macro keys... Most of the G15 macro keys were too far from the normal left hand position, and I ended up using only a few of them (this is probably why Logitech removed 2/3 of the keys in the new version)... Another thing is that I hope Razer will include a software function to disable the Windows key during gaming.... … View Post »

We got a unit at Park Central :D It ' s within our budget, will be fully serviced through our CPF OAs.... You can see the floor plan here ... Drop a comment :D Here ' s a pic of the construction site from the opposite block: Our future view will be the trees at the old carpark behind the site, and I love it so much... ;) Actually our first choice used to be Block 588B, 213 because of the space in between Block B and C. However, my mum says that Block 588C, 223 has better feng shui... Even the agent at the booking counter was surprised that it had not been taken yet... I guess one thing is that it ' s not on a high floor, and people prefer high floors... Good luck!... … View Post »

I take a taxi to work every morning, and I would say that 99% (or 99.99%) of the taxi drivers I meet are male ~ so it ' s always a surprise whenever I meet a female taxi driver... She changed lanes abruptly and fearlessly, and was impatient when the traffic was slow due to the heavy rain... All this from a lady who looked like your typical housewife, complete with long messily bunned up hair :P... … View Post »
The balloting results are finally out, and our queue number is..... From property agent Elphine Chia ' s website : UPCOMING Design, Build and Sell Scheme (DBSS) project Park Central @ AMK received over 2,300 applications or four times the 578 units on offer when submissions closed at midnight on Tuesday, developer United Engineers (UE) said yesterday... For the previous DBSS project City View @ Boon Keng, some 3,500 applicants vied for 714 flats, but only 460 homes were sold after the first round... Can ' t say, can ' t tell, no point in speculating... Hope the lucky people who got good queue numbers share the prices and any juicy info with the rest of us ;) The developers won ' t release the pricing and updated availability info of the flats until we go for the appointment... It ' s got the best location of all the recently released new flats (we ' re not keen on resale), but it ' s also tops ~ by far ~ for the amount you have to pay per square foot!... … View Post »
The NUS Green Carnival 2008 culminated in a movie screening of Sharkwater ... The people who courageously fought for the sharks (including the admirable Paul Watson) were not helped at all by the general public mindset that sharks are merciless, vicious predators that would stop at nothing to harm and kill humans.... thing for her, because she ' s hated sharks ever since she was a young girl, when her uncle brought her to watch Jaws ... Second, that sharks kill five people a year on average.... Imagine that someone thought Michael Phelps, being such a splendid swimmer, must have something special that they could acquire by eating him.... so they cut off his arms and legs, leaving him to bleed to death, then make a nice soup out of his limbs... Sharks don ' t get cancer, so if you eat them, you won ' t get cancer either... If you ask me what the difference is between killing chickens, pigs, cows, fish.... … View Post »

I ' m having this ridiculously slow work week, where my productivity is super low, especially compared to our busy period just a while ago :P I work a bit, do my own stuff, work a bit more.... I long ago realised that I ' m not like some people who can put in the same amounts of energy and motivation into their work all the time... Just on a whim, I went to check out the 1990 Polly Pocket collection from Only Polly Pocket ... Lolzomg , I found two more sets that I used to have as well :D No wonder I had a feeling that something was missing from my post yesterday ^^ All Polly Pocket images used here are owned by Only Polly Pocket , and I use them with happiness and gratitude ;) Polly Pocket ' s School (1990) I totally remember this!!... I remember that I wanted all my Polly Pocket compacts to have different shapes, but I didn ' t like the flower shape because it looked too busy, and the square and circle shapes were too plain... … View Post »
