The government today cut fuel prices 15 sen across the board - the fourth time in as many months as global oil prices continue to fall... MCPX Effective midnight, pump prices of petrol RON97 would be lowered by 15 sen to RM2.15 per litre... Since hiking prices by 41 percent in June, the government has cut fuel price over the past three months... Due to the sharp fall in global oil prices, the government has decided to again (cut petrol prices) to hasten the reduction in the retail price of products for the benefit of the public, said Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in a statement today... Met after the Umno supreme council meeting this evening, Shahrir said although crude oil prices have dropped by half to US$62 per barrel, other considerations had to be taken into account when reducing the price... The minister said the government had stocked up crude oil a month ago when the price was still high and the reduction must be based on the price at the purchasing time... Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today announced that the controversial multi-billion ringgit deal to buy a fleet of military helicopters has been put on hold until the economy improves... MCPX We have decided not to purchase the helicopters... Abdullah s decision to scrap the deal awarded to Franco-German company Eurocopter is one of the government s first major cost-cutting move as it re-prioritises its budget to cope with the worsening global financial crisis... However, Abdullah said the government is still committed to replacing the countrys ageing fleet of 28 Nuri military helicopters by 2011 following a series of crashes in recent years... Ministries told to slash spending At the press conference, Abdullah also revealed that the purchase price for the 12 Cougar EC725 helicopters was RM1.7 billion, and not RM2.3 billion as reported earlier...
