June 2008, I walked into the boot shop and fell in love with a pair of red and black Ropers. My birthday came and went. By Christmas I had almost forgotten about them. However, my husband had not. Returning to the boot shop he asked the owner to put them aside for me. Six months later I found them in a Care Bear bag underneath the Christmas tree waiting for me.

The day before returning to the rat race of 40 hour work weeks, meal planning, day care drops, and high school for the step kids, W.W. and I spent a quiet day with the grandparents. After a spending Thursday night through Sunday morning doing respit for 3 foster kids on top of my own kids, my brain declared a day of much needed relaxation.

The weather turned blistering cold, the wind chill froze snot in the nose, and a gray blanket covering the sky shed a few snow flurries through out the day. None of this stopped my Mom and I from taking W.W. to the aquarium then for a quick hike through the frozen over Botanical Gardens. We missed the River of Lights, again this year, however seeing all the unlit displays convinced us to try harder for a visit next year.

Delighted with the fact no one else decided to visit the gardens on this cold winter day, W.W. ran everywhere delighted with the freedom.

I admit my blog has decided to take a holiday break. Being home actually means less time blogging than when I sneak a few minutes here and there at work.

May you all have had wonderful winter holidays so far and an excellent New Years to come. If I don’t get back here before then.

Photostory Friday hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

At 12 weeks and 5 days I had my second ultrasound as part of the prescreening process yesterday. I skipped this procedure with W.W. However, after W.W. being 6 weeks early and listening to long arguments among various members of the medical profession about my due date, I opted to try and be as specific as possible. Why not start the ultrasounds early?

I admit I think they’re fun and informative. I learned I have a fibroid at the top of my uterus and a cyst on my left ovary. Most likely the donor ovary and the midwife assures me the cyst will be reabsorbed before the pregnancy is over. As for the fibroid, it would be best if it didn’t grow too much bigger but we’ll see. Right now it’s the shape of an oval golf ball.

Here I am at 2 inches standing on my head.

Here’s my profile.

With a June 30th due date I’m hoping this one isn’t too early. W.W. might not be pleased if they both ended up with the same birthday. My next ultrasound scheduled for February will determine the gender. My husband says all bets are off, definitely a girl. He makes me laugh. I’ll settle for a nice healthy baby in a few more months.

Monday brought the first snow storm of the year right into the valley for us all to enjoy.

By Tuesday afternoon 90% of the snow in the valley melted away until the next storm swings through.

No picture today. I know it snowed yesterday, schools closed today, and by this afternoon the sun shone brightly and melted all the snow.

All the wet damp mud truly reflects my mood at the moment after opening the mail. To catalog the list of financial burdens before Christmas lets look at the following:

1) Destruction of transfer case in our Dodge truck.

$1140 for the transfer case

$370 for the drive shaft

$170 for the wiring harness

plus bolts and other miscellaneous parts

2) State propane inspector shows up today and tells us our hot water heater is not approved for a manufactured home. We have 30 days to replace it or they come take back the propane tank. A few calls later tells us that will be another $400.

3) Open the mail and find a bill for $294 from the oral surgeon. Apparently their accountant charged us the wrong amount when he had his wisdom teeth removed.

Right now I feel like returning every Christmas present purchased so far.
