So it’s January 6, and I know I didn’t post any resolutions. Every year I am pretty sure I have the same ones anyway. Don’t most people resolve to start a diet or gym routine that pretty much gets derailed by February? Of course I hope to continue losing weight in the new year, and I guess it doesn’t make one bit of difference if I make a formal resolution list or not. I’d also like to be more tidy, read more, maybe take some classes, and do some traveling in 2009.
2008 was pretty much a bust other than the whole walking 60 miles thing, and honestly even that had a few unsavory moments. I am incredibly proud of that accomplishment, however all of the fundraising and training definitely took a lot of time and energy. It was worth it– just look at all of the money that we were able to raise. This year I plan to participate in a few smaller walks for the cause, and hopefully in 2010 Nikki and I will return to the 3-Day.
I hope everyone has a blessed and prosperous 2009. I am looking forward to more happy moments and less tears and drama in the new year.
| You might have heard that I was selected to be one of the IZEA Insiders already, but the official announcement was posted on the IZEA blog today. If you have time, go over and meet the other 9 incredible bloggers who have all been very busy making plans for their crews in 2009. We’ve already had one online meeting and plan to meet virtually once each month. We’ll also be out and about at conferences around the country spreading the word about the IZEA family. |
My small crew, SuperCrew, already has their own Google Group and we would love to have more bloggers join us. As you can see, we also have our own icon (Thanks, IZEA!) that you can display on your blog to show you are part of the crew. I am working on getting another badge created for my members. If you are interested, drop me a comment or e-mail. I plan on attending at least two blogging conferences this year, and there will be plenty of contests and giveaways too. I’m looking forward to a fun year, but I can’t do it all alone. I hope you will join me.
I know I mentioned last year that we were planning on going to Cali to help celebrate Lisa’s 30th birthday, but last week it was made official when I purchased the airline tickets and booked the hotel room. Today I rented our car. I can’t believe it’s only a little over a week away. We’ll leave next Thursday, flying into LAX and will return to DFW on Sunday.
There are so many things I want to fit into that short amount of time. In-N-Out, Beef Bowl, Mrs. Knott’s, and of course Disneyland. Lisa is having her party at Club 33, so we will get to spend part of the day there at Disney. Other than that, we have no other set plans. I was thinking of maybe going to Knott’s Berry Farm on Friday, so we will probably be amusement parked out by the time it’s time to come home.
Dave got me a new digital camera for Christmas, so I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures. Yay for the happiest place on earth!
| I have loads of excuses for why I have not been updating. Work has been crazy (and I really shouldn’t be online there anyway), and I am still recovering, wiped out, and tired from my surgery. My first day back I literally could not stay awake in the afternoon, and went right home and went to sleep. I don’t even bother with my computer anymore. It’s been hard, but everyday I seem to be getting better. My doctor said that I am tough, and really I was off the prescribed pain medication after day 10 so that I could drive to work. I’ve been surviving on Tylenol, and other than the scabs in my nose and throat, and my loss of taste I feel pretty good. It seems like I am sleeping better, so overall I think it was all a success. I have my follow up appointment with the surgeon on Monday. Yesterday was two weeks since my surgery date, and next Thursday (my Birthday!) will be three weeks. I am hoping to be fully recovered by then and at least be able to enjoy a nice dinner and some cake. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
We had a fun New Years. I honestly did not think I would feel up to going out, so we stocked up on sparkling grape juice and snacks and were prepared to stay in. Last year we went to casino night at Dave & Busters, and they sent an e-mail about a comedy night this year. We had fun last year, so we decided to buy tickets for the comedy show/buffet/champagne toast etc. We sat with a really sweet couple and their daughter and had a pretty good time. I haven’t uploaded my pictures yet (and there weren’t many), but I will get them up this weekend. I also plan on getting my annual resolutions post up. Woohoo! |
| I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas and New Years holiday! You might remember that I received a $100 to spend at Sears as part of their Don’t Just Give a Gift, Grant a Wish program during the holidays. I was also given another $100 gift card to give away to one of my readers courtesy of IZEA. The winners were announced via TedTube earlier this week and my lucky winner is Karen at The Pond! |
Congratulations, Karen! I hope you enjoy spending your gift card as much as I enjoyed spending mine. For those of you wondering, Karen was selected based on the Twitter entry that she sent out.
January 1 was the official start date of the IZEA Insider program, so be sure to check back with me and my fellow Insiders for more fun and giveaways all year long!
There is only one day until my triumphant return to the world. I’ll be going back to work tomorrow and will finally have to interact with someone other than my dog and husband. hee. I’m still not feeling 100% by any means and talking is still not easy, but I think it’s time. I haven’t even been on the Internet. I know, the horror!
My throat was feeling better by Wednesday night, so I decided to skip getting up at 4:00 AM for my dose of pain meds. That was a huge mistake. I was in terrible pain on Christmas morning. My nose has been in a constant state of clog since the surgery too. They did something up in my nasal passage that has made it run 24/7. And I thought this procedure was suppose to help me breathe better? I asked D to pick me up some Vicks while he was out, and he also got some nose strips which have been a life saver and help me walk around with some comfort. They are not very attractive looking, but to feel somewhat normal is kind of nice.
On Christmas I baked us some pastries, we played a little Rock Band 2, and we headed out to the movies for a little marathon which was really my first time in the real world since getting out of the hospital. The good thing is that it was dark, and I could still wear my nose strip. LOL We played some games and ate dinner (if you can call it that) at Dave & Busters. I am still not able to eat normally, and honestly have been drinking most of my meals along with lots of water. My taste buds are shot, and nothing tastes normal either. I’m not sure when that is going to change.
That day took a lot out of me, and I slept the entire next day except for when D woke me up every four hours for my medication. I’ve been trying to call my doctor and make the follow-up appointment so that I can get released to work and get further instructions on what I need to do, but that has been a no-go. The actual doctor finally called me back yesterday and said he can’t see me for over a week, but I can’t really wait around that long. So I’m self releasing myself back to work, and will switch to Tylenol every four hours for pain and give that a go. The good news is next week is a short week too due to the New Years holiday.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and all their wishes came true. I hope to be up to being able to be out and about (other than work) and fully normal again in a few more weeks. I’ll keep everyone updated. I also did not do Christmas cards as normal and as intended… there was just too much going on. I love and appreciate all of the ones that were sent to us, and we will be doing a New Years card this year instead. E-mail me your address if you are not already on our list. <3
I knew this was going to be bad, but seriously. Who knew I’d ever be begging for liquid codeine over Bluebell Homemade Vanilla. Nothing is really helping the pain. I have been sleeping as much as possible. I cannot breathe through my nose to save my life. I have an awful ear ache. Should I even mention the dry throat and scabs? I didn’t think so.
I felt okay enough to take a bath last night, but I’m not sure when I’m going to feel like actually making it outside. I have the feeling I’m just going to sleep right through Christmas. I hate “wasting” vacation time on stuff like this. I can’t remember the last time I used my time for something fun.
Well, it’s time for another dose of medication. I’ll be back in a day or two with another update.
| I just wanted to post a quick update to let everyone know that I am home from the hospital and am doing well following my surgery yesterday. I had a tonsillectomy with some additional nose throat procedures.
They took good care of me at Baylor Frisco, and I got some good drugs. Now that I’m home, the drugs aren’t as good so I’m starting to feel the pain a little bit more. I have been sleeping for most of the day, and will probably sleep straight through the next few days, waking up to promptly take my medicine to stay ahead of the pain. |
I read some pretty bad horror stories from other adults who have had this done, and my doctor told me I am going to be in pain for about 10 days. I’m not looking forward to it, but I really hope this helps my breathing in the long run. Dave has been taking good care of me too. I have my favorite ice cream (Blue Bell homemade vanilla), and some yummy soups. I also have Ensure and Slim Fast to make sure I am getting all the vitamins I need. Nikki dropped by the hospital last night with some of my favorite magazines, so I have plenty of good reading material.
Thanks to everyone for all of the well-wishes. I am sure I will have nothing better to do than post updates for the next week, lucky you!
| Jill sent me a fabulous martini glass with an Eiffel Tower and other French landmarks a few weeks ago for no reason at all, and I love it! I never got around to posting the picture of it, but here it finally is. I put it right beside my Glamourtini on our nightstand. Thank you again, Jill!
Kat also sent me a fabulous serving set from my Crate & Barrel registry as an early b-day gift. I am sure we’ll be using them on Christmas. Thank you! I love them! |
I also won a Flash Drive on Heather’s blog, and D promptly wanted to steal it from me as soon as it arrived. I didn’t let him though. I’m going to be using this one when I go to blogging conferences next year. Thanks, Heather!
Yesterday, Lori sent me an e-mail saying I won one of the Mario Batali lunch bags she was giving away. If you know me, you know I have a HUGE lunch bag collection. It’s beyond obsessive and only outnumbered by my PJ pant collection. I used to bring my lunch every single day to work, and I really need to get back in the habit. I know my new fabulous espresso tote is going to get me back into being organized in the New Year. Thanks for a fabulous contest! Love it!
Thanks to Jeannie, I joined up with Georgie’s Secret Santa Soiree where I bought a surprise gift for Lorie and received a gift from Cassie.
Are you confused? It’s pretty simple. Georgie and Amy decided to have a secret santa gift exchange and opened it up to bloggers everywhere. Jeannie was raving about it over on her blog, and since I haven’t been participating in the monthly gift swap on LiveJournal anymore, I couldn’t say no to a chance to shop for a holiday gift. My partner was Lorie, who I got to know in secret and she is just the nicest person who posts fabulous pictures of her family.
The gift from my partner, Cassie, arrived today, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. I don’t know her blog address because Georigie just revealed our partner’s today. I don’t know how she knew I liked Mint Milky Way bars, but she sent a whole big bag full. Did I put that on my questionnaire? If so, I don’t remember. She also sent me an awesome Eiffel Tower keychain which I love (obviously!), and a lovely set of fleur de lis magnets! She also sent some fabulous dark purple nail polish that I cannot wait to use. I’m going tomorrow for a pedicure, so I am going to bring it with me to the spa. Everything was wrapped so nicely. I loved the little damask bag and red ribbon– my bedroom is actually all in damask.
It was hard to take photos because everything was so shiny!
Thanks so much Cassie! Everything was perfect. Thanks also to Georgie and Amy for organizing the whole thing. I know it is a lot of work to keep track of everything.
