I am going to try to begin posting Stitching Related Events to my Calendar widget with corresponding posts.  These will likely mostly be local to the Los Angeles area.  I will make an effort to create sticky posts for recurring events such as my EGA chapter’s monthly General Meeting.  If you have a stitching event that you would like to share, please send me an email and I would be happy to add it to the calendar.  Be sure to include all the details.

Happy Stitching!

Yes, I am a couple of days late on this, however, I have actually been able to sit down and stitch.  Leo has been trying to help in his own way, kind of like the kitties do.  So I stitch as much as I can while he is napping / sleeping then put my threads and especially my needles and scissors out of the reach of his little curious fingers.

I finished the scarf that was to be a Christmas present to my friend Kim and started on a matching hat.  I’ve also been able to dedicate some time to Mystery In A Corner.  Part I is nearly finished.  I hope to get it done by the end of next week.  I am really enjoying how the colors are coming together.  I will try to get pics posted shortly.

I do have some Goals (not resolutions) for the coming year.

  • Update my blog at least once week

  • Work on Stitching Stuff at least 15 minutes every week. (I was going to say 30 but that is unrealistic with a little one in the house, even 15 may be stretching it :P.)

  • Populate and market my Etsy store

  • Tweak my website for better flow and cohesiveness

I will probably need to make myself calendar tasks to keep on track. Maybe that should be the first goal…wish me luck.

The new NeedleArts was in the mailbox today.  As I opened the plastic wrap to begin reading it, I noticed the 2009-2010 Education Catalog was on the back side.  The cover art certainly caught my attention.  It is The Last Fall stitched by Carol Lynn Stratton who is the Consultant for the 2009 Challenge/Challenge with a Twist.  The Last Fall  is a embroidered tree with glittering crystals for leaves, some still on the tree and many lying at its feet.  This beautiful piece of art encourage me to immediately dig in to the new catalog.  I was not disappointed.

I saw three different Independent Study Courses that I would like to take.  Constraints of time and finances will only allow for possibly one.  The classes under consideration are: A Basic Study of Schwalm Embroidery; Introduction to Metal Thread Embroidery; Silk and Metal Threads on Canvas I: An Introduction; and Silk and Metal Thread Embroidery.

Then there are the Correspondence Courses.  I actually pulled out a sticky note pad to mark the pages with the ones in which I am interested.  There are 7 pages marked for 8 different courses.  Those choices are: Molly, A Dimensional Bear; Angelina: Italian Drawn Thread; Dresden Kitty (pulled thread white work); More Options in Hardanger; Tiramisu (reversible blackwork); White Queen (pulled and drawn thread white work); Fantasy Rembered (stumpwork); Summer Dream (stumpwork); and Japanese Temari.

I am very excited about these offerings and hope that others throughout the Guild are as well.

Ironically, I had put it aside with the other mail when I brought it in as we had errands to run.  At one of the stores I ran into a fellow chapter member I had not seen in awhile.  Barbara and chatted about our families then discussed the difficulties our chapter is facing.  There was also a brief discussion on the offerings of EGA versus those of ANG.  I must say that EGA has reacquired my attention.

I have been trying to upload pictures of Christmas themed stitching and the image uploader is not working.  So, off I go to try to figure out what the problem is.

Oh, I am so wanting to bead right now.  I have these black shoes that had black patent bows on them and one fell off.  Shoe repair replaced them with what they had but I am just not happy with the new look.  I want to bead up replacement bows with some metallic black delicas.

I also have 2 lanyards and a necklace to repair.  Then there are a bunch of great projects I’ve downloaded through my subscription to Bead & Button (www.beadandbutton.com).  Oh, so many beads and so little time.  I also have this design in my head that I need to put together…of course, prior to that I need to get the supplies.

There are also some stitching projects that are calling my name: Mystery in a Corner, Crazy Quilt Egg, My Daughter and Rapunzel to name a few.

I finally had some stitching time, sort of….

I made Leo into a Leosaurus for Halloween.  The Little Leo Lizard had a tail and stegosaurus spikes.

And I have started on a scarf that will be a Christmas gift.

Next week I will be teaching the biscornu to my EGA chapter.

I mentioned a while back about my EGA chapter making Christmas ornaments for the silent auction at Holy Cross’ fundraising Gala. Last minute as it was, I received the last of the ornaments, 14 total, last week and brought them in on Friday with their storage box. I was at the Odyssey Saturday morning to help set up and managed to get some pictures with my camera phone. They are not as detailed as I would have liked, however, Peggy said she would take more with her camera when she returned for the event that evening.

Of the 14 ornaments five were beaded, three were quilt, two were needlepoint and there were one each of the following: hardanger, blackwork biscornu, cross stitch and machine embroidery.

I will add the other pictures to the gallery once I have them and post an update.

I finally made it to the LNS to get my canvas and threads for Mystery in a Corner.  I already had the perle I wanted to use, a bright yellow Pebbly Perle, #P201.  I had been thinking about using a brown or black canvas but saw this amazing yellow canvas at the shop and had to have it.  Picking out which watercolor I wanted to use proved to be the most difficult.  I kept running into the problem of there only being a single skein of the dye lot that I preferred.  There was one called Royal Jewels that had a bright and vivid color scheme in one dye lot, however it was much darker and subdued in the other.  After much going back and forth on several different colors, I finally decided on Cranberry.  Next came the Impressions, which was considerably easier to choose.  This is a royal purple, color # 6010.  And on to the Krenik braid, two colors of #16 and two colors of #8: a set of white, #16 - color 191 and #8 - color 5555; a set of lavendar/light purple, #16 and #8 both color 093.
