There still are good Samaritans in this world. I blogged a few months ago about my computer dying on me, and my sad broken hard drive. Well, I was telling my computer supplier about this, a guy who works with our company to get us computer parts for our clients. I asked him how much a new hard drive would be, and he took pity on me and sent me one for FREE! Can you believe that?
I was so excited when it arrived yesterday that I couldn’t wait to get it home and put it in my laptop. I guess Mac Laptops have decided that they are going to make life really tough for us techie nerds, because when I went to take the old harddrive out of its case, I couldn’t. It needs some special screwdriver: not a phillips, not a flathead, but a torx. A what now you ask? Yeah, so did I. I was pretty upset as you can imagine, having waited for 2 months to get my laptop fixed. So I came to work, and asked a few coworkers about the torx screwdriver. They said that anyone who had one of the Victorinox Swiss Army watches that my company gave out to its employees a few years back as a Christmas present would have the torx on it. Luckily my boss had one in his desk, and I snatched it up like a kid with a delicious piece of candy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right size. ARGH! So on her lunchbreak, my Secretary decided to go to the hardware store for me, only she forgot what kind of screwdriver to ask for, and asked for a hex instead. So here I am-with no fixed personal computer. I’m lucky enough to have my old computer, but still. This is THE computer-the one that has access to my external hard drive, where every picture I’ve taken is on it, and all my music, and…everything. So I guess I can wait one more day. Sigh…
It’s the new year, and not only do I resolve to take more self portraits, but I resolve to do these SPTs more often. I’m going to try to do them all!
This self portrait was taken while waiting on hold for HP’s technical support. Sigh…30 minutes and counting.I also played with the color accent tool on the camera. I resolve to get better at using these filters on my digital camera.
The winner of the Routan Baby Contest is… drumroll please….. Katrina!!! Or should I say Baby Kaiden? Great job Katrina, and you will be receiving your prize pack soon. Thanks to everyone who participated, and I hope to have more contests in the future.
This last week I was sick with a nasty cold bug, so I spent the majority of my time on the couch watching TV, huddled under a blanket. Dyl and I were watching this crazy show about ridiculously expensive houses. It was aptly named What’s With That Really Expensive House? It was a pretty funny show where houses had everything from a car elevator to home theater seating in a full on movie theater in some rich guy’s basement. It was insane! I think I’ll stick to dreaming for a standard 3 bedroom home, thank you very much. Still, it was fun to see all the things people decide to spend their money on. And the host of the show was super goofy and kept making fun of the rich people. I think I’d watch it again even if I wasn’t sick.
This is perfect for me, because I’ve been doing a lot of hoping lately. I’ve been hoping for a beautiful house with Kohler sinks that Dill and I can buy. I’ve been hoping that D will get hired with a fire department and start his dream career. I’ve also been hoping that eventually Dyl will give me an engagement ring. And if he does, I hope we stay as happy as we are right now.
Well it’s Monday and it’s back to work we went. It’s so hard to go back to work after having a holiday off, especially in the middle of the week like Christmas was. But the good news is this week is short too! Just two and a half days of work, and then New Year’s eve party time. Woohoo! Of course we really don’t have any plans yet-so far staying at home and drinking champagne we already have just might be our big plans.
We’re being low on spending cash lately because every penny we earn is going towards our big move at the end of January. I can’t wait to be out of this crappy apartment complex! We’re going to move to another apartment, but hopefully the rent will be cheaper, and the complex smaller. Anything is better than this dump in my opinion. I’m not asking for a fancy house with hardwood floors, bamboo shades and a two car garage. I’m just asking for a place where my neighbors don’t leave their entire old bedframe outside their apartment, sticking out to the point that I’m tripping over it as I climb the stairs. Really people? REALLY?
So the hunt is back on for apartments. We’re almost positive we’re going to move into this particular complex that is managed by Dill Pickle’s aunt, but we are still keeping our eyes open, just in case something better comes along before the 31st. I highly doubt we’ll find something as great as this place though.
This apartment complex is small, and the apartments are like little townhomes, and you don’t share walls on both sides like in most units. Also, we’re above our own garage, so we don’t have to worry about walking softly. Plus, it’s almost $400 cheaper than our place now, so we’re going to save save save!
I’m here at the office the day after Christmas, on a Friday, which means absolutely no one is calling into the helpdesk. Today is similar to Black Friday or Cyber Monday, and everyone that is out on the road is probably on their way to the mall to get the discounts for the day after Christmas sales.
So with all this free time, I was once again able to watch TV at work. I about fell out of my chair with this last week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. I love his Christmas jingles about Ted’s sister. Oh Barney, you sleigh me! Get it? HA!
Peace is being with my boyfriend Dylan. Before him, my life was chaotic, I was sick a lot, and often stressed out. With D, I can relax and play a game of gin rummy to pass the time. Before I met Dylan, I could barely sit still for more than 5 minutes. OK, I still have trouble sitting still, but he helps!
Peace is the ocean, especially at home in Oregon. I miss home a lot, and being able to just drive five minutes to the beach. I loved to sit in my car and watch the waves on a stormy day, or walk on along the water and feel the sand between my toes.
Some of you guys might have gotten a kick out of my Routan Baby that I created a few posts back. Now for the first time on my blog, I’m pleased to offer a contest where you can win a few prizes from Volkswagen, as part of their Routan Campaign. If you haven’t seen the commercials, here’s one of my favorites.
So for the good stuff, the contest: Just comment on this post with what you look for in a new minivan or car and you could win a VW prize pack!
Here is what is inside the prize pack:
One (1) Book: “Welcome to Your World, Baby”, authored by Brooke Shields
Three (3) Volkswagen T shirts
One (1) Volkswagen branded tin
One (1) box of Kleenex tissues (new Antiviral kind)
One (1) package of Wet Wipes from Huggies (not pictured)
The contest will end at the end of this month. Good luck and remember, “have a baby for love, not for German engineering.”
I commute 30 minutes to work, so an hour round trip. Sometimes I get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, especially on the way home. What I hate the most is when there isn’t even an accident, but for some inexplicable reason all the cars have decided it’s a great idea to go 30 miles per hour on the FREEWAY. Since I’ve been doing this commute for a long time now, I’ve developed a lovely case of road rage.
As I was driving home a few weeks ago, traffic was even slower than usual. In fact, at one point it was at a dead stop and of course I was fuming. That’s when I noticed smoke billowing up ahead, and realized that for once, traffic was stopped for a valid reason. There was a massive car fire on the opposite side of the road. Now, I hate “rubber neckers”, those people who slow down to stare at accidents, but I had to admit, I’d never seen such a bad fire. I am pretty sure everyone made it out ok, or at least I hope so. There were lots of people standing around, but no one looked like they were crying over a lost loved one. I happen to have a camera phone so I snapped a shot of the accident while I waited for the rubber neckers to pick up the pace. Crazy huh?
