I must have hit upon just the right time of the day today (yesterday) to check out the great new Chapleau River webcam shot— there has been no shot available for months. It replaces a previous scene that though pretty, was not a eye-appealing as this–and the webcam camera is currently mounted perfectly!
In order, the slideshow pictures go: brand new webcam scenic video capture(!)
at Chapleau River in Mulligan’s Bay

Haliburton (stylized becuz their webcam company sucks(!)

Buses leaving Chapleau River area. Just a kinda cool shot with the river in the background

Beaver Valley Skiing –still looking kind of spooky. Needs snow.

Lagoon City–always misty/foggy-looking.

Lake Superior – Wawa - Ontario – Canada

Lake Superior never fails to look fierce to me. Not good for swimming, I’d guess.

Right now, drop what you are doing and click through above the graphic to check out the Dirt Devil Holiday Buying Guide.

Right off the bat the Promo Code Tricks caught my attention. Love them! I’d considered myself a savvy online shopper but I was really pleasantly surprised to find how much I did not know about saving money doing my online shopping. A couple of my favourite tips n’ tricks that I found in the Dirt Devil Holiday Buying Guide include the suggestion to if you already have a promo code, to take the code and “Google” it, with and without quotation marks, which may bring up similar additional promo codes! Isn’t that neat?!

“Month markers” is another great online shopping code tip to keep in mind. Sometimes you attempt to use a promo code only to find that it has expired. The hint? Since ’sometimes’ a 2-digit code sequence means the month like “10″ is equal to October, try instead to change the code to the month you are shopping in like if it were November, to “11.”

My very favourite tip for using promo codes when online shopping is triggering a “deeper deal.” For example, if you have a promo code like SAVE15 to save 15% on your purchase–try SAVE25 in it’s place or SAVE30 or even SAVE40!  By making this small alteration in the code you can reap big savings–a “deeper deal.”

There are many other promo codes tricks that I have not touched on so make sure to click over (link above) and read through them yourself!

I don’t know– does anyone not like FREE shipping? I thought not.

Do you know about FREE shipping shortcuts, though?

I’m a bit chagrined to admit that I did not take advantage of last year’s Free Shipping Day. This year, on December 17, 2009, hundreds of websites are offering FREE shipping–with a promise of delivery for Christmas.

In addition, you can find free shipping every day of the year by perusing sites like freeshipping(dot) org!

I have barely scratched the surface of over 300 ways to save with online shopping by reading through Dirt Devil Holiday Buying Guide. There are many many more and you can download and print the guide for handy reference (I already did!).

Speaking of Dirt Devil, don’t forget to scope out the Dirt Devil Designer Series in the Guide which has items both pretty and practical in the Gifts for Her section, for the men in your life, a spectrum of Gifts for Him that would be great for his workshop, the car and/or garage and more, and finally, don’t forget Family Favorites gifts for friends, relatives–the entire family!

One thing I’ve noticed in using Twitter is that people who Twitter love to share important news as well as the more everyday goings on in their lives. Because Twitter has the potential to reach an exponential number of folks, for example, I tweet about the “LeapFish and Make-a-Wish Foundation Join Forces to Raise $10,000 and Tweet an Ill Child’s Wish True” effort and a couple of my readers “re-tweet” my message to their readers and their readers respond in kind…see how many people can get informed of great things– and it all starts with a “tweet”?

If there ever was a good time to take the very simple step of joining Twitter, now is the time because despite what you may have heard, Twitter most certainly is not for frivolous use only. Very important information is shared and announcements made on Twitter. Twitter is quite literally a news source itself.

Who could resist helping out the “Tweet an Ill Child’s Wish True” effort when you hear of a child like young Jacob? At the tender age of 4, Jacob, has a rare and life-threatening disease that has affected him since birth. He has one big wish in life –- to go to Disneyland with his family. That is so awesome. I’ve been fortunate enough to have gone to Disneyland many times and let me tell you, not only will Jacob’s dream come true at Disneyland, it will exceed his wildest expectations as well as his loving family’s!
But Jacob needs your help in granting his One Big Wish and it will take very little effort for you to do so.

LeapFish , an evolved search engine, has joined forces with the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants magical wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to help in making ill children’s dreams come true. Now is the time to help make Jacob’s dream come true.
This is the plan:

“Tweet-a-Cause, a social media fund-raising initiative, will give Twitter users the power to grant an ill child’s dream to go to Disneyland, one Tweet at a time. LeapFish will donate 5 cents per Tweet to the Make-A-Wish Foundation until $10,000 has been raised and the child and his family can go to Disneyland.”

That’s it–simply tweet-a-cause.

Don’t forget! This effort is time limited! Please read!

The campaign will run from November 16 through November 27, 2009. LeapFish will match each Tweet with 5 cents to a target of $10,000 which will get Jacob and his family to Disneyland.

For more details on the campaign and how to help please visit LeapFish.com/MakeAWish.

I’ve not ever really known how to celebrate Remembrance Day or Veteran’s Day, as it is called in the U.S.  As a kid it meant a day off of school and as an adult it means a day off of school for my son but how does one get a real feel for  what the day really means? How about listening to a personal account of Ron Lawrence’s experiences in WWII?
Details follow for this nominal-fee community event.
Wednesday November 11,  3:00PM to 5:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM
In honour of Remembrance Day there will be a reading from Ron Lawrence’s memoir about his experiences in WWII. Following that, Earle Gray, a writer and historian with expertise in the oil industry will give a talk. Gray has published eight books and is currently working on a book about Canadian news stories from the 1820s-1930s. The public is also invited to attend the Haliburton Highlands Genealogy Meeting at 7 pm at R.D.L.P. where Gray will talk more about how to research old newspapers and some of the intriguing stories from old newspapers he has found. Admission is $2.

It’s common knowledge that promotional items are effective and inexpensive tools to promote the excellent services and products that your business offers. Amsterdam Printing’s customization tools enable you, by using promotional printing to create custom promotional products from short and slender water bottles to Earth Totes to traditional ceramic mugs, to the carry-on size Anamsport duffel bag for the traveler who has no time to wait in long check-in lines–and there are hundreds of other creative ideas as well! It’s great to know as well that Amsterdam Printing’s 100 % Guarantee ensures that you are completely satisfied with your promotional items, from the time of purchase to the time of use.

Most of the time I am not terribly fond of stacks of mail coming to my home, especially so-called junk mail. I think, “What a waste of paper!” It seems though that the places that I already do business with or that I would consider doing so, will often use eye-catching postcard printing that immediately stand outs and captures my attention. Some of them are so lovely I’ve kept them. I even framed one over-sized one that came from a university that was soliciting my son’s enrollment! True story!

Pretty, eye-catching, interesting, so many adjectives can describe a postcard’s graphical design or photograph. It almost guarantees that your message will be seen by the people you want to reach.

I won’t go on about the obvious saving of excess paper, not to mention that postage on postcards is quite a bit less than an envelope stuffed with information. There’s that and there is the fact that the message you are sending can be quickly seen by the receiver of your postcard. Personally, I’ve always loved a pretty or interesting-looking postcard in my letterbox/mailbox.
The one above is from a collection of hundreds of holiday-themed cards that you can peruse.

Autumn Leaves Forecast Central Ontario

Indian River Sunset - Nov 2, 2009 - Port Carling

According to the Leaves Forecast “80%” of the leaves are now “on the ground.” Some of the photos I’ve posted bear this out, others it seems not quite so many have fallen. Regardless there are signs showing up like ice forming on Head Lake in Haliburton. To my eye and I’ve seen it up close and personal many times, Head Lake looks like a river. It’s that narrow. So, the appearance of ice is not unexpected. I’m sure the personal snow vehicle-riders are starting to get excited about the upcoming months where the frozen Head Lake is used for recreation. Haliburton is a very welcoming town and a great place to engage in a variety of fun times outdoors.
