In the past I recommended PLC for getting your PLR eBook, graphics, software... and I still do. But what if you are looking for affordable private label text only or don't have the money yet for PLC?

Those are not 100-150 words post. While looking at this month content, I found that most of them are in the high 500 words. That's a lot of content for a niche blog.

What about duplicate content penalty?

In August 2008, Google deindexed most of my BANS/phpBay sites. Like I mentioned before, it was my own fault and take full responsability. Since then, I added only 7 sites to my very small network of 29 sites(36 total). I also added it on 3 of my WordPress blogs using phpPay Pro WP plugin(worth it).

I did not do more link building using BMD or FBF for some time on most of my sites. The last point is very important here because the traffic is still coming from other search engines like Yahoo/MSN.  Imagine when I will make new BANS/phpBay sites with more content on it to make Google happy.

Show me the numbers

I will not used real numbers but I'm going to go with my biggest earning month as the baseline.

May: 61.22%

June: 100% I earned the most that month

July: 85.48%

August: 40.2%

September: 25.78%

October: 31.95%

November: 69.6%

December: 107.1% (up to Dec. 31)

Are BANS/phpBay dead?

Some will say that those kind of sites are dead now.  Those that tell you that are complete morons or they just want to keep the competition away. If you look at only Google traffic, it's partly true but Google does like WP blogs and the phpBay WP plugin can be added to your blog.

In fact, I do have BANS/phpBay sites(not blogs) still indexed. Most were created after the Google deindex using the phpBay API (v2.5).

I only use phpBay API and the WP plugin now. I don't use BANS because I prefer the phpBay API.

I can build Canadian specific post because I also make money from Canadian visitors too. Plus, phpBay WP has 14 parameters you can control/override. That's one reason I added Plugin Code Builder to AuctionSiteWriter to make that step easier.

Alternatives

You could also use other alternative(free/paid) on your blog but look at the features first. For example, phpBay has a free version. It was too simplistic that I upgraded to the Pro(Bundle). Because I wanted to give a better experience to potential buyers, I needed to filter out some keywords.

Conclusion

Some will point to me that the increase is because many are shopping for the holidays online. This is a fact and I won't argue that point.

But conside this:  Because of the recession, most people will try to find a better deal on new or a used product. Thus, creating a targeted BANS/phpBay sites will be one more way for you to make money.

A few months ago, Denise left a comment in another post asking for more XP and Vista tips.  It's been a long time coming. :p

For many years, I always used more than 2 hard drives in my computer. I was doing basic video editing(VHS to mpg2 file) and it was strongly recommended to have a dedicated internal hard drive.

In most cases, you don't need to capture video.

I would partitioned the first hard drive in at least 3: XP(C:), Data(D:) and Ghost(E:).  From time to time, I would backup(burn) all my data on a CD or DVD. Like I mentioned before, the second hard drive would be dedicated for capturing video.

Note: The Ghost partition would be for making an exact copy of my XP installation. If I had to start over, I would take 5 minutes to recover my C: using one of the Ghost image from my E: partition.  When the hard drive became bigger than 127GB,  Ghost(2003 DOS boot) started to give me problems by not seeing passed that. I won't get more into this since they have a Windows version now.

Computer troubles

My older and main computer gave me problems last year and I had files(my document/email) on the D: partition and other files on the F: (third drive). I was lucky because the main drive was not affected but still a small pain to recover those few files.

So, I used another computer(1 year older) until this past summer where it too started to give me problems. Turn around time was the issue so I went and bought a new computer(Vista) with a 500GB hard drive.(C:,D:).

It however had raised an issue of getting back those files in a very fast way. That's when I decided to centralize all my files(my document, email, source files of AuctionSiteWriter ...) on one drive only. In my case, it's now on the second internal drive (F:). The chance that both drives failed is very low. If I even have to start on another computer, I would remove the second hard drive(not apartition) and install it in the new computer.

Backup that data but where?

Since I know my way around a computer, it's not a big deal for me to add a second internal drive. I could backup my data to the D: drive or use an external hard drive. The point is to have at least the data on another hard drive from the one you are working on.

Unfortunately, many older computer/hard drive came with only 1 partition making it harder for owners to keep things(XP and Data) separately. I would recommend to still work on C:(faster) but backup/copy your data every day on an external hard drive and also burn it to a CD/DVD. If the worst happen, you still got  access to your backup data.  This solution must be done before something happen to your main drive.

In Denise's case, she needed the data from the main drive since she bought a new computer and the older computer failed. In her case, buying a cheap $20 USB external case would be a simple solution. She would just need to install the older hard drive(was okay) and copy the files to the new drive. Once that's step was done, she could then reformat the external drive to be a backup solution.

First, here are some things to be aware

Installing the hard drive in the external case is simple. You have IDE(older) and SATA(newer) hard drive. If you are not sure, bring the hard drive to the computer shop and they will help you choose the right case.

The older hard drive might be partioned in 2(C: and D:) so when you plugin the USB drive, you might see 2 new Removable Disk (example I: and J:). Thus when reformatting, you might have to remove both partitions.

Conclusion

I have multiple internal/external hard drives with each one having a purpose. But for most users, you only need a second external hard drive to backup your files. Now, if your data hold only on a CD, you are better to burn them instead. If you have ripped your whole collection of CDs to mp3, then the hard drive will be faster for you.

Like I always said to clients: "If you loooose your data, would you gnaw your fingers" Okay, it's a rude French translation but I hope you get my point. Now, I have to go backup my own data and so should you.

Btw, the price has dropped a lot that you might find cheap hard drive now.

I was watching a French-Canadian channel with my dad when we saw the Tweeze TV ad. Instead of using French speaking Quebec actors, they only dub in French the audio of the English TV ad. For Tweeze,  it's a cheap way to gain access to the Quebec market. Up to this point, I understand the reasoning to cut cost and be able to offer a cheap Tweeze hair remover across Canada too.

If some of you don't know, I'm from Quebec City(French speaking city) and English is not my first language. I do make mistakes in both Canadian official languages. Since I have a PVR, I can skip most ads on recorded movies or shows but this time around, it was live. So, I never took the time to watch it. That's when my father pointed to the funny translation they had done on the Tweeze French ad.

You see, they used the French word "Tondeuse" which mean for Quebecer's "Lawnmower". I don't think the ladies would used a lawnmower to remove their facial hairs. It would be painful but at least, permanent.

Tweeze should had used a better word like "Rasoir" instead.

I'm sure that Spanish translation of American ad's got some funny translation too.

I wanted try my hand at making money with email submits but none of my current affiliates had one. For example, CB is mostly for software and ebooks.  So, I registered with NB since I heard of them before and I knew they had some.

I was expecting to register and get an email a few minutes later or much later informing me that I was in the program. It was not like that. I first received a call to tell me I was in. I had to speak in English but that went well.   They want to check if I'm a real person and I'm okay with that.  The day after, I got another call from my affiliate manager. He wanted to introduce himself and see what were my goals. Again, I had to speak in English a bit longer with my French-Quebecois accent.

Making Money With Email Submits

If you don't know, an email or zip submit is when people must give some information(name, email or zip) and you get paid for that action.

I have a pre-owned domain where the traffic is still coming largely from traffic exchange. So, I created a new main page to offer a related email submit for them. When they click(just 0.6% of the time), 12.5% of  them will take the offer. That site is averaging $3.14 per day since I started using it for that.  Some days, I make zero but on other days, I make more. The visitor do have a choice to take the offer or not.

Depending of the type of domain/traffic, I'm sure you could earn more or less than that. For example, you could have some poll on your site. Whatever they answer, you send them to the offer. They give the information and you collect the money.

For me, making money with email submits was easier than I expected. Yes, it was worth my time to register with NB.

P.S. No, I won't tell you the offer since you need to find one targeted to your traffic.

AuctionSiteWriter v2.0 is now available.

The new feature is call Article spinner and only available to registered users. I did not write the documentation or made a full installation for it yet.

What does article spinning has to do with auction sites?

I'm adding features to AuctionSiteWriter that are not auction specific but still can use for my BANS, phpBay sites.  With an auction site, you can get spinned articles by adding backlinks in the article to be publish using SK. If you promote 3 auction products per site, you can have 3 deep links to those pages in your article.

Using SK will help you more for that specific task(added SK button) or for a niche site(Spin). You could use the article to create more unique content for all your niche blogs/sites.

How the Article spinner feature work?

1-In the Original article page, you write an article or you can paste a PLR article.

2- When it's finished, you click on Import. ASW will then split every line finishing by . !  ? or carriage return (Enter). Keep the HTML to the basics thus avoid those characters.

3. You then select the Write line variations page. You will see a grid with every line of your article. Below the grid, you can write up to 3 more variations of the original line(Line 1). By writing something real, it make the article reader friendly and the more line you do, the less duplicate content you get when you spin it.

4-  Once you have finished, you select the Spin article page. You have the option to spin the article or click on SK to get the article compatible for Syndicate Kahuana.

Updated review of Syndicate Kahuna

At first, I was a skeptic of SK since I expected duplicate content and wrote my opinion about it. But after paying to be able to publish my articles to the network, I understood how it worked in reducing duplicate content. But I still believe that you should not use it on a flagship blog.

The network is made of blogs owned by other bloggers like me. It's free to register a blog and the blog must be categorized to be able to get related articles.

If I don't spin my article, it will only be published to 4 blogs(limited duplicate content). This was the mistake I made with my first article. By using the spin mode, I get more variations and thus get publish on more related blogs in the network.

To keep the quality of the articles high, they must be validated first. It took less than 12 hours.

My article will then be added to 2 new blogs per day until all of them are done.  The new feature in ASW will help with that particular task(SK button). Frankly, that is why I added this feature in the first place. I also needed it for my niche blogs too thus the Spin button.

Unlike most article directories, a blog will only get related content.  Like I mentioned before in another post, my financial related blog only gets financial articles plus my own articles when I have the time. My blog is less dead that way and I get new content for those readers and search engines.

The bigger the article, the more backlinks I can add in it.  In any case, those are contextual anchored backlinks that will increase your ranking. I'm limited to a maximum of 3 backlinks per article. However, the ads on my financial blog must compete with those 3 backlinks.

The price is $67/month to be able to publish your articles(no limit per month). You could test it for 1-3 months or you can get 45% off by paying one year in advance.

SK should be part of your toolbox to get content(free) and backlinks(paid). The same goes for BMD, FBF....

Btw, you links will be counted when your links gets counted by Google and other search engines.

I mentioned before that companies that continued to advertise during the last recession were in a better position than their competitors after it ended. Plus, companies don't need a physical product to do Internet advertising. For example, a DUI Lawyer could offer his/her services locally too.

The Internet factor

Unlike the last recession, the Internet is an advertising tool available to all companies big or small. This is a major factor since e-commerce is done 24/7. Even if it's 2am where a company is located, it's 2pm elsewhere in the world.  If companies don't advertise on the Internet, their competitor will, locally or not. Plus, television is being replaced more and more by the Internet meaning more potential clients.

Some numbers

Depending on your country/region, companies don't invest much in Internet advertising. Below, you will see the % of the total advertising budget that is spent on the Internet.

Quebec(Canada): 3%

Canada: 10%

USA: 12-13%

Europe: 20-25%

I knew that Quebec was far behind but I did not know by how much. This also show good opportunities for companies. Since the Internet has less competition, the cost of advertising will be lower.

Of course, geo targeted ads for Quebec would need to be in the French language. This would also open the field to French companies that are exporting to the Quebec market.  The same could be said for European companies for the English Canadian and American markets. Remember, it's 24/7.

Adwords is one of the method most companies will look at first. A company can geo target an ad so that they don't show it to those outside of a specific area. Here are 3 examples:

The first 2 are geo targeted to cities(Chicago, Detroit) while the last one is for the whole country(USA). The same third ad could be use for Canada too. They might have offices in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal.

Depending on the city, the DUI lawyer might have to pay more while paying less for smaller cities.

Note: Having a good pay per click course will help companies or they will loose their shirts. They could also find a company to do it for them.

Branding

For many, they have a tendency to look at the Click-through rate(CTR). Depending on the goal of your ad, you should also look at the branding benefit.  When you read a newspaper, you don't call every ads in it.

To brand itself more, a DUI Lawyer could buy banners on popular local blogs that gives news about the city, do restaurant/bar reviews, law related blogs....  The cost might be even less than doing PPC but the blogger could have readers outside of the city too thus not geo targeted. The ad might not have much clicks but it will offer branding power.

However, a company must select wisely the sites. Having a DUI Lawyer ad on a tech blog is not a good idea.

Conclusion

Most companies will make the mistake to cut their advertising budget. But by adding Internet advertising, it will help companies to survive through this recession by getting new untapped clients.

If employees can't have a raise or new equipment this year, the company must make them understand that offline/Internet advertising is what bring the money and paying their salary. Most employees should understand that because of the current recession.
