My mother’s Westie-Poo, “Sugar”, was sprayed by a skunk in the face about 3 weeks ago, as did my 2 miniature schnauzers, Knosey and Kurious.
We’ve tried to bathe Sugar numerous times with shampoos, tomato juice, mayonnaise and peanut butter, which worked the best of all of these home remedies.
However, my mother still couldn’t stand Sugar’s smell, so we resorted to bringing her to our favorite dog salon, Poodle Fluff & Puff in St. Catharines, Ontario where Joan Schoures and her granddaughter, Dana Sampson, takes care of our doggy’s problem.
Find out how the professionals deskunk your dog in this video:
Once Sugar’s hair dried, it doesn’t smell like skunk anymore! She hasn’t gotten wet since as it hasn’t rained, so I’m not sure what she’ll smell like wet, but it’s certainly more liveable now!
I guess it’s important to let the professionals take care of things sometimes! LOL

How to Deskunk Your Dog When They Get Sprayed is a post from: Terrier Lover
As you all know, we got a new doggy addition to our “K” crew – Karat Diamond…
She is a Yorkie-Poo mix, who is a real sweetie-pie.
We brought her in to our favorite dog salon to show her to our favorite groomers and Debbie surprised me with a terrier cut for her face, instead of the poodle-look she had going on, as we have 3 other terriers in our little family, not including my mother’s 2 terriers.
Check out this cool video:
Debbie more clearly defined Diamond’s beautiful, brown eyes and pretty eyebrows, as well as trimming up the sides of her face to make a more brick-like look that schnauzers have, in particular.
She was so well behaved for them and she is such an adorable girl! I’m just in love with this dog!
What kind of Terrier-Poodle mix do you think Diamond is? Yorkshire? Schnauzer? Maybe a Cock-a-poo? Let us know your opinion by leaving a comment below…

Terrier Newsflash:
Diamond & Kimberly
We adopted a 14-month-old Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle mix “puppy” last week named “Diamond”.
She was my husband’s cousin’s dog, but her life just got a little hectic with a change in work and a newborn baby that she felt she couldn’t give Diamond the attention and care she deserves.
So, she asked us to “babysit” her for a while – I’m sure that she knew we’d fall in love and the rest is history.
Since all of our dogs’ names start with the letter “K”, we slightly renamed her with an official name of “Karat Diamond”, but we still call her Diamond!
With her silky, curly black hair and a white diamond on her chest, it’s a strange result from crossing a Yorkie and a Poodle together. Poodles are often one color and Yorkie’s are always a combination of black and tan or blue and tan.
She’s definitely a terrier, almost resembling a miniature schnauzer in the face, just like our other 3 babies. However, she is also very poodle with her long legs!
Diamond is so playful, as puppies should be and she is a sweet surprise for our terrier-loving household.
She has not yet met her brother and sisters, but she will next week – and I know she’ll be so excited to have so much action going on all the time. Plus, my mother’s 2 terriers will also help with the dog pack babysitting!
Check out our first video of Diamond:
I guess my Mom’s “baby”, Precious, won’t be the baby anymore! Even though she’s just over 2 years old, she still acts like and wants to be the BABY!
However, when it comes to puppies, other little animals like our hedgehogs and the like, she likes to take over and herd the rest of our little pack away so she can be in charge and take care of them. Too cute!
Really, I think Diamond and Precious will make a sweet friendship as Diamond really resembles her in the face with her cute, floppy ears, beautiful puppy-dog eyes and similar coloration.
Diamond & Kimberly
We’re very excited to introduce Diamond to Sugar, Kaptain, Knosey, Kurious, Precious and especially, her new Grandma – my Mom!

Introducing “Karat Diamond” – Our New 14-Month Old Yorkie-Poo is a post from: Terrier Lover
Only a fraction of the people out there are prepared for an emergency or disaster of some sort.
Do you have canned food, bottled water, candles, a generator?
Even fewer people think of stocking up on Pet Supplies in case of an emergency.
I don’t mean just a bag of dog food or some canned wet food either…
K-9 First Aid Kit
…I mean supplies for dog safety like first aid kits, a portable dog bowl, and a dog shelter or kennel to keep them safe, if something ever happened too.
Be sure your animals have tags on a collar or harness, so people will know where to return them to or call if they get lost. Know where your leash is at all times!
Blinking Pet Safety Light
Have you seen those blinking dog safety lights for their collars, dog safety coats or even your own jacket? You can see them up to a half mile away, so it’s safer for your dog around traffic or when you’re out in the dark with them. Many are water proof as well!
We even have dog booties for all 5 of our family’s dogs, just in case they have to walk over tough terrain.
Maltese Terrier In Dog Carrier
If you have a small terrier dog, then do you have a dog carrier handy?
Now, this holds true across the board when it comes to different pets and their pet supplies.
Do you have a dog first aid kit, or any first aid kit for that matter, in all your vehicles that you travel in with your animals?
It’s better to be safe than sorry when traveling with your dog. The thing is, a car accident is never expected – that’s why it’s an accident.
You never know, there may be a day where these sorts of pet supplies will save your beloved terrier’s life (or your own life).

Earth Dog Trials or Den Trialing
Do you have a terrier? Does your little dog love to hunt down and chase small vermin? Dumb question. We are talking terriers. There is an event that will suit your terrier to a T. It allows them to do chase down a rat, satisfying their age-old instinct. It allows them to meet other terriers – which may or may not be a good idea. It also allows you and your pet to have some quality time bonding together in a sport he or she loves best. This is Earth Dog Trials or Den Trialing.
The sport of Earth Dog Trials is open to terriers. This includes most breeds and Dachshunds. However, certain organizations have exceptions. These are not uniform. It is a good idea to check first before registering your pet for a competition.
Earth Dog Trials are simulated hunting events. It is a “go to ground” competition. The idea is for your terrier to find his or her way into a tunnel, making it through to the end. At the completion, the dog will find a caged rat. Your dog must then “work” the rat.
The tunnels are all made. They vary in length with the organization. The American Working Terrier’s Association’s (AWTA) tunnels range from 9-by-9 to 30’ while the AKC’s tunnels are 10 feet and up. Both associations implement bends in the tunnel to test the dog’s skills in finding the rat. Both do not allow actual kills. It is all about finding and working the prey.
In the AWTA trials, your dog may qualify to enter the Novice Class or the Certificate of Gameness (CG) competition. The Novice Class is a 1-minute test dashing through the tunnels to the lure. Your dog either passes or fails. The CG tunnels are 30’ and your terrier must travel the length in 30 seconds to reach the rat. He or she must then work it for another minute.
The AKC has a more complicated system of 4 levels. This includes an introduction to Quarry. This is a 10’ tunnel with a 2 minute finding time and a 30-second working time. The Junior Earthdog (JE) allows no commands during the run through a 30’ tunnel. The dog has 30 seconds to reach the rat and must work for 30 seconds. To become a JE, your dog has to perform 2 tests for 2 different judges.
Another higher level is the Senior Earthdog (SE). The dog has a 20’ starting pint for a 30’ tunnel. There is a false den. The handler actually calls of the dog after the location of the quarry before allowing the animal to return to work it again. The animal has to find the prey within 90 seconds and work it for the same amount of time. After 3 tests for 3 different judges, your dog can gain its SE.
The last level of class is the Master Earthdog (ME). It is similar to the SE trial. It differs in set up with the addition of a false visible door along with the actual, hidden entrance. A scent indicates one from the other. Dogs are worked in pairs. They need to find their way past the deceit to the rat.
Training for Earth Dog Trials is hard, unless you have plenty of back, side or front yard and can dig it up for the laying of a network of tunnels. It is a sport suitable and loved by terriers. It is also a competition in which you learn as you go along.

Kaptain, our male miniature schnauzer is a no-muss, no-fuss kind of guy!
That being said, we still like to dress him up, especially when the girls are all decked out in their leather jackets or gorgeous barrettes in their hair.
So, for times such as these, we have a few options for the “man of the dog house”…
We’ve got a few satiny or mesh jerseys, of our favorite sports teams, that Kaptain will happily tolerate.
He struts around like he knows he looks really cute, and he really does look cute.
It doesn’t interfere with him “going outside”, which is nice in case someone accidentally let’s him outside with his shirt on.
It’s also lightweight, so he doesn’t act like it’s very uncomfortable or like he “can’t walk” – he’s such a ham…LOL
For dog clothes with a little more testosterone than rhinestones, get yourself a football or baseball jersey for your boy dog instead of the typical bandanna option…
Too cute…

That’s right! Who doesn’t have a prince or princess for a dog?
I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t think their dogs are absolutely precious to them…
Who doesn’t say, “Awww…” in that high pitched tone when they see a little girl with a princess outfit on complete with a tiara?
Well, how cute would that be on your pooch?
I know, I know…even though some of our dogs who we feel are princes and princesses, they may not act like one all the time…or even some of the time.
So, for these guys, you just need to call them your royal babies…
For those other pooches, who actually think, feel, act and believe they’re royalty, these are for you!
These are the dogs that turn their nose up at bulk dog food, who don’t like regular tap water in a plastic bowl, or for those that won’t stoop to sleeping on the floor. LOL
These are for all of the prima donna terriers out there in this world!
How cute? I really think our dogs think they’re humans, or we’re just oversized dogs…one of the two…
So, give your little “royal wonder” the accessory they’ve always wanted…
A crown!

What an absolute JOY to wake up and see your terrier’s bright, shining face…
…They are ALWAYS so excited to see you – it’s the beginning of a new adventure everyday for them.
Photo left: Our Kaptain Knickknack in the morning, upside down, as usual! LOL
If I’m not ready to actually get out of bed when I am awakened, I cannot even make any eye contact at all with any of them.
It’s like Kaptain, Knosey and Kurious are simply waiting for you to wake up, as if they’ve been awake for hours already, just waiting for you patiently. They’re so loyal and so loving.
Yes, they’re excited to scare the first squirrels of the day in the backyard when they tear outside, but before that, all they want to do is say hello and good morning by acting like puppies, shaking a paw, snuggling under your chin and giving you kisses.
They don’t care what your hair looks like or how your breath smells…They simply are happy just to see you wake up – to spend another fabulous day with you.
What an honor that is to me, and what a blessing to have such a gift every single day…
It’s the cutest thing to see those little faces in the morning – I love it! It makes my day!
I’ve never gotten along with “Morning”, but this makes it so much easier to greet the new day…

Waking Up To a Terrier Face is a post from: Terrier Lover
I just don’t understand it…
Is your dog itching, scratching and stinking beyond belief?
Do you?
Wash your dog one day, just to have the stink return the next?
Wait weeks between bathing your dog because his skin gets so dry and flaky?
Hate bathing your dog because you rinse and rinse and rinse…and still can’t get him completely rinsed?
Need help? Why not try the all natural dog shampoo Dogosuds ® made by Dinovite, Inc.
Isn’t it time for that new dog smell?
Our dogs, especially Sugar, love to roll around in the grass.
The only problem is, there are sometimes special “packages” on the lawn that were left from earlier that they love to find and roll in.
Why in the world they would love to do this, I do not know…
Then, of course, we smell it and have to give them a bath immediately! NOT COOL…but, hey, they’re doggies, right?
Well, in cases such as these, be sure to use the right dog shampoo that is sensitive enough for their delicate skin and strong enough to eradicate those odors!
You’ll want something that helps get that smell out, is all natural, lathers well and rinses easily, but also has no chemicals or fillers in it whatsoever.
For any kind of “bad” smell, I like to use Dinovite shampoo for all of the reasons above.
It’s all natural, doesn’t irritate their skin and is strong enough, even to get that special “package” scent out, as well as the grass stains!
Dog O Suds does a fabulous job at making your dog smell fantastic and smell like that for a while – it’s long lasting. Plus, it’s a natural flea deterrent, which always helps, especially during summertime!

You may think you’re way too busy to take any more time out of your day to do anything…Am I correct?
Well, I’ll tell you what, if you don’t take some time out to smell the roses and play with the terriers, you’ll be missing out on a little thing called “Life”!
Do you spend time watching TV? Do you read before you go to bed? Do you mindlessly talk on the phone or surf the internet?
Be Honest!
Do any of these things really improve your relationships with anyone? When you are on your last living breath, will it matter that you read that extra love story novel? NO!!! Will that comfort you? NO!!!
Know what will? All of the thoughts of your family and loved ones in which you got to spend time together – really spend time together…The happy face your dog had every morning when you awoke. The unconditional love you got!
Then, you have a little time to throw the ball for your furry friend. Play tug of war with a rope toy. Run in the yard with them. Throw a frisbee for them. Take them and yourself on a walk. Just snuggle with them on the couch.
Don’t do these things mindlessly – REALLY BE IN THE MOMENT and ENJOY what you do!
Please take this advice – your dog is probably your truest friend around – loyal til the end and unconditional with their love. In fact, they live for you!
Strengthen your bond with them – make them feel wanted, like everyone else important in your life.
