I went to see “New Moon” today, and while I enjoyed the film and the books very much, it is all starting to become ridiculous how much attention these movies are getting. I guess every generation and it’s thing and this is it. It makes sense now that Harry Potter is almost over that there will be a new film series for the kids. I guess I can’t really say too much since I DO like the films (and I am one of the few males to admit it) because I went nuts over the Spider-Man movies and the X-Men movies, and the Matrix, so I have had my share of films to die for.

I was looking around on line on Friday and in the midst of all the New Moon stuff found this video and found it to be very humorous. I don’t know if you will like it if you are not fans of the books and films but I thought it was worth sharing! Here you go…The way Twilight should have ended………….

I saw the preview for this film a while back and thought it looked pretty good. Of course it is jumping on the vampire bandwagon, looking like it will be pulling similar plot lines from “True Blood” and “I Am Legend”, but it has Willem Dafoe in it! That makes it worth seeing in my book.

I do like the story line that is laid out in the trailer…here check it out……

It is not very often that I promote silent films, in fact, I think this is the first time I posted one on Zombie Popcorn.

Satan s’amuse or as known here in the US, Satan at Play. This film was released on Oct. 26, 1907 and was directed by Segundo de Chomón.
Segundo de Chomón was viewed as a pioneering Spanish film director in France. He produced several silent shorts and 1901 he  joined Pathe Laboratories, where he specialized in adding color to film.

The storyline for this film is, ‘In an unnamed place, his majesty Satan is bored. Despite his servants exertions, nothing can be found to cheer him up.’

So here it is in all of it glory, Satan s’amuse (1907)

You are about to witness the most amazing film ever made. No, it is not George Lucas’ Star Wars.  It is Dünyayi Kurtaran Adam, translated – The Man Who Saves the World.

Dünyayi Kurtaran Adam is a Turkish-made cult film commonly known as Turkish Star Wars because of its notorious use of unauthorized Star Wars footage worked into the film.

It was released in 1982 in the midst of massive political upheaval. As a result, American-made films weren’t easily acquired and were often remade with a Turkish cast and setting.

Don’t worry if English is your only language because this film is so good that not understanding the dialogue will not be a problem.  This film has won a spot in my heart and is now in my top 10 list.

I thought everyone already knew about the  upcoming film Lost Boys 3:  The Thirst.

After talking to several peeps about the new posters Correction: Fan made posters that was just released, I came to the conclusion that not very many people know about this film. Seriously, do you blame them for not knowing?  After watching Lost Boys 2: The Tribe I am sure everyone wants to forget the Lost Boys series.

As you can see with the posters – Lost Boys 3 is going to bring back the Frog Brothers.  There is not much information out about this film yet other than the two main characters and that this will be a straight to DVD film.

So here are the posters – what do you think?  I think they are amazing!

Last night on Zombie Popcorn radio, Josh and Jason found themselves in a jam… oh wait, this is not a 80’s sitcom continuation.

Anyway, last night on the show, we talked about the new photos of Piranha 3D that was released by Fangoria and of course, how excited I am about the upcoming release. The film is set to hit theaters April 16, 2010.

This is a remake of the 1978 film with the same name.

The plot;

A tremor under the surface of Lake Victoria unleashes scores of prehistoric piranhas, an event which rallies the local sheriff (Shue) who will risk everything to save her townsfolk.

The new photos that were released look amazing and now I am even more excited about this up coming 3D film – blood, gore, fish and 3D- woo-hoo!

Yesterday was Friday the 13th, but did you know it was the 35th anniversary of the DeFeo murders in Amityville. Yes, the events that sparked the horror series, ‘The Amityville Horror’.  When I was younger, after seeing the first Amityville Horror film, I wanted to live in this house.

There are a ton of mysteries tied up in these events. If you only take in the accounts of the films you would think that demons owned the Amityville house. If you listen to some of Amityville’s locals, they say it was “a young man, under the influence of drugs, angry, and beyond reason and human decency.”

So what really happened?

According to records -

At around 6:30 on the evening of November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo, Jr. burst into Henry’s Bar in Amityville, Long Island, New York and declared: “You got to help me! I think my mother and father are shot!” DeFeo and a small group of people went to 112 Ocean Avenue, which was located not far from the bar, and found that DeFeo’s parents were indeed dead. One of the group, Joe Yeswit, made an emergency call to the Suffolk County Police, who searched the house and found that six members of the same family were dead in their beds.

The victims were car dealer Ronald DeFeo, Sr. (43), Louise DeFeo (42), and four of their children: Dawn (18); Allison (13); Marc (12); and John Matthew (9). All of the victims had been shot with a 35 caliber lever action Marlin 336C rifle at around three o’clock in the morning of that day. DeFeo’s parents had both been shot twice, while the children had all been killed with single shots. Louise DeFeo and her daughter Allison were reportedly the only victims who were awakened by the gunfire at the time of their deaths, but according to Suffolk County Police the victims were all found lying on their stomachs in bed. The DeFeo family had occupied 112 Ocean Avenue since purchasing it in 1965.

Ronald DeFeo, Jr. was the eldest son of the family, and was also known as “Butch”. He was taken to the local police station for his own protection after suggesting to police officers at the scene of the crime that the killings had been carried out by a mob hit man named Louis Falini. However, an interview with DeFeo at the station soon exposed serious inconsistencies in his version of events, and the following day he confessed to carrying out the killings himself. He told detectives: “Once I started, I just couldn’t stop. It went so fast.” DeFeo admitted that he had taken a bath, redressed, and discarded crucial evidence like blood-stained clothes, the Marlin rifle and cartridges on his way to work as usual.

So what really happened? Was Ronald possessed by demons? Or did he just simply go mad?

The Amityville Record says,

forget about ghosts and hauntings; don’t listen to the hype and the tales of demonic possession that many have attributed to this crime, most in the interest of making money or bringing some morbid level of fame to someone, somewhere. Those who continue to perpetuate such lies pay disrespect to the memories of the DeFeos who lost their lives.Instead, everyone should recognize the lethal potential of children lost to anger and drugs. That is the real horror that Amityville and every other community in this country should be putting their energies into in order to eliminate it forever. That would be the best tribute to this family.

Happy Friday the 13!  This is the last one for 2009 so enjoy it as much as you can.

The last couple of days have been crazy.  If you have not been watching the news, Virginia has been hit with a huge storm that has caused flooding and the Governor has issued a State of emergency.   Check out some of the News coverage.

Our power has been off and on, so of course I turned off  the Zombie Popcorn Radio stream until the storm blew over. (it is back up if you want to listen.)  Speaking of blowing, we also had winds that reached near 75 mph.  I was sitting at the back door watching all of the trees and power lines dance violently.  It was pretty amazing.

I have not ventured outside yet to take notice of all the damage but I will as soon as I finish eating these wonderful pancakes Mylie cooked for our flood day.  So stayed tuned for photo updates.

Have a wonderful Friday the 13th!

As I began watching “House of the Devil” I felt like I was Marty McFly traveling back in time. It seemed as though I was in 1984 watching a B-horror movie that was on USA’s Up all night. Everything from the opening scene to the opening credits, music, acting, and plot  had that touch of the 80’s era of horror film.

The film begins with our heroine, Samantha looking at an apartment. While speaking to the land-lady we find out that Sam needs to come up with the first months rent by the beginning of the week to move in, this is where the story begins. Samantha is a college student living in the dorm and wants to move out, apparently she is tired of having to deal with her promiscuous roommate. While roaming around campus she sees a flyer for a babysitting job and gives the number a call on the campus pay-phone. When no one answers she walks away and just as she gains a few feet the phone rings. A creepy man on the other end tells Samantha she has the job and she is to meet him at the registration office where he will pick her up to take her to the location of the job.

The man on the phone never shows and Samantha is let baffled as to where she will come up with money to get her apartment. Eventually she ends up getting in touch with the guy and gets the job. Samantha’s friend Megan gives her a ride to the house and immediately things look sketchy. We find out that their is actually no baby to be sat, and that the man wants to pay Samantha to watch his over the house while he and his wife go out for the night, she refuses. But, he offers to pay her $400 to stay which she accepts.

Megan tries to plea with Sam to not stay, that this is in fact “too good to be true!” but Sam is desperate and stays. This is where things start to get…well…Fucked up! We see Megan meet her doom  shortly after leaving Sam, which is a great scene. Then we start to see Samantha figure out that this is not what she signed up for. She finds dead bodies throughout the house and pentagrams drawn on the floors.

The last 15 minutes of “House of the Devil” is where the real goldmine lies. We see this slow moving movie come to a bloody and quite shocking of a close, and you are left with your stomach a little unsettled. This is a great film that, while quite slow moving, really comes together and leaves you satisfied.

Although it is all very familiar subject matter, I would have to say that “House of the Devil” freshens things up and gives us a taste of the good ole’ “bad” horror movies we use to love. I would give this film an 8 out of 10.

Be sure to tune in to Zombie Popcorn Radio on Saturday from 7-9 eastern time, where we will be discussing this and other topics. Also download the podcast on iTunes.

There is a new game coming to Xbox 360 that seems a lot like Silent Hill but with an added creepiness. The game is Deadly Premonition.

If you are a big gamer you may remember this by the title Rainy Woods. Back in 2007, this game was going to be released on several platforms under that name.  Now, several years later the name has changed to Deadly Premonition and will only be released on the 360.  I wish they upgraded the graphics a little because it looks really dated.

I am not sure what this game will offer but I am sure I will waste several hours playing it because I am really interested with how the creatures shove their fist down your throat.  Oh the things this game will teach our children.

Check out the trailer.

One more thing before watching the trailer.  Yesterday, I told you about Paul Casper’s CD release – it is happening at 10pm (EST) tonight – so go check it out.  You can also get a free song download from the new album.

Now on to the Deadly Premonition trailer

Good Evening.

Yesterday, I was talking with Mylie T about how when I was a kid I used to watch the Alfred Hitchcock Presents TV show.   During that conversation I realized how much I missed that series and that I needed to break out the old collection.  So, lucky for you I did just that and uploaded it to the Zombie Popcorn YouTube page.

If you don’t remember what the Alfred Hitchcock Presents Tv series are  let me bring you up to speed.  Alfred Hitchcock Presents is an anthology television series hosted by Alfred Hitchcock.  The seriess started in 1955 and it featured dramas, thrillers and mysteries.  Each episode was only 30 mins long and could be compared to other shows like Twilight Zone or Tales from the Darkside – but better, in my opinion.

I may post more of the series depending on if you enjoy watching them, but until then here is Alfred Hitchcock Presents.. ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’ 1958.

Mary Maloney is a devoted wife and an exceptional housekeeper. One day, her husband, the police chief, announces that he wants a divorce because he has met another woman. Mary is quite angry and kills him with a blow from a frozen leg of lamb. She calls the police and provides and alibi for herself with the story that she’d been out to the store when the murder took place. The investigating officer, Lieutenant Noonan, is further frustrated when he cannot to find the murder weapon. Knowing of the long and hard hours spent looking into the case, Mary invites Noonan and the other investigators for a bite to eat. They dig into Mary’s leg of lamb and Noonan still thinking about the missing murder weapon says “For all we know, it might be right under our very noses.”

I am back!  It was an amazing break  and yes,  I missed you.  So to make up leaving you, I am going to share with you my adventures – in photo format.

We flew into Salt Lake City and drove up to Yellowstone National Park – taking the back roads, of course!

On the way we stopped in Ogden and ate lunch at the Pizza Runner. We had vegan Calzones and Big K cola. It was AWESOME! The calzones are so huge, I ate all mine but Mylie T worked on hers for a couple of days.

I highly recommend, if you are ever in Ogden, to hit up Pizza Runner.
They are located at 3017 Harrison Boulevard.

After stuffing ourselves I wanted to take a nap but Mylie T said we had to get to Yellowstone and we still have 9 more hours to go.

We had a total blast on this trip. We saw so much wildlife, snow and volcanic elements it was amazing. So, I am going to share the photos with you, instead of writing an hour long essay about the trip. If you want to hear about the trip – tune in to Zombie Popcorn Radio this Sat. at 7pm-9pm (EST) to hear about it.

I was lucky enough to have the day off on Thursday so I decided to go see Paranormal Activity, since it is the big buzz movie of the month and I know our listeners would like to hear what we at Zombie Popcorn thought of the film.

I went to the 11:50 show and as I got to my seat I saw that there was no one else in the theater, but I did arrive early so I figured that would change. When the previews began I was surprised to find that no one else had entered the theater. So I was excited, I thought to myself, “Well, if I were going to be affected by this film this would be the perfect setting, in a dark place, all alone!”.

The film begins with Micah buying a video camera and shooting random things around his house. We are then introduced to Katie, his girlfriend and we discover that the camera is to be use to record them while they are sleeping because they have been hearing strange noises at night. The entire film is seen through the camera, which is not very original since we have seen it done by the likes of Cloverfield, Diary of the Dead, and The Blair Witch Project.

As the movie progresses, we see Micah and Katie meet with a psychic and, and Katie explains that she has always felt the presence of something since she was a young girl (shadowy figures at the foot of her bed, whispers saying her name, and weird sounds in the middle of the night). The psychic states that he deals strictly with ghost and that is appears Katie has a demon problem and that she should seek help from a demonologist. Micah (like the macho guy he is)  decides that they should try and deal with the issue themselves, and the psychic warns him not to torment the demon or thing will get worse.

From here on we get a few good scenes of he couple sleeping and strange things happening in the middle of the night, a pretty cool scene with a Ouija board that builds tension between the couple. None of the scares are very effective I have to say, anyone  that is a fan of horror can see the scares coming. I personally found myself laughing more than being frightened. Another thing that bothered me was that between the scare scenes they failed to keep me interested, while moving about the house I constantly found myself thinking “Wow, the layout of their house is amazing!!” and could care less about what they were talking about.

By the end of the film were are seeing more intense interactions with the demon, and Micah does exactly everything he is NOT supposed to do to make things better. Honestly, I would venture to say that Paranormal Activity (while much better) is The Blair Witch Project, in a house. It does deliver a much better ending than Blair Witch, which made me happy, and the scares were a lot more effective in a home environment, because that is where a person is supposed to feel the safest.

I would give Paranormal Activity a 6 out of 10, while I didn’t feel like it was a waste of money, the film still ceased to impress me, probably because it has been done before. I do see why people are liking this film and it does make a good movie for the Halloween season, but all in all it was very predictable and even in the most perfect of situations, in a dark room all by myself, it failed to scare me.

Oh how I love Halloween.  It is by far my most favorite holiday.  I love the weather, I love how it gets dark earlier and I love all the horror stories that come out from the wood work around this time.

As you know, I am going to be spending Halloween in Yellowstone and will not do a Zombie Popcorn Radio show this Saturday.  So I thought it would be nice if you wanted to curl up with some hot chocolate, a blanket and your friends in front the radio and listen to some old and classic horror stories.   The radio this year will be Zombie Popcorn Radio and the stories are as follows:

  • Night of the Living Dead – Rare Radio Adaptation

  • Edgar Allan Poe read by some pretty famous people, including Christopher Walken and David Bowie

  • Vincent Price reads a collection of horror stories, including Edgar Allan Poe

  • Boris Karloff tells tales of horror

  • H.P. Lovecraft

  • Anton LaVey’s The Satanic Mass

  • Great radio horror movie trailers and advertisments

  • Sounds to make you shiver

  • and so much more.

I know you want to listen and know you want to go trick or treat’n so I am going to make sure these stories are played until Monday evening. This way you will have time to hit up the haunted houses and then kick back at night and listen to the horror masters tell you tales of fright.

When does it start?  Well, if you are reading this – it is happening right now – so what are you waiting for?  Tune in…. or are you afraid?

Tomorrow (Friday) I leave to spend Halloween weekend in Yellowstone National Park.

This is the last weekend before they close the park for the season. I am really looking forward to spending time out in the middle of nowhere with all the snow, the animals and of course, Mylie T.

Weather reports say it will be snowing all weekend so maybe we will get snowed in and end up like good ol’ Jack from the Shining.

Thinking of all the snow reminds me of the new Norwegian zombie film, Dead Snow.  If you don’t know about it here is the plot:

A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies.

and the trailer

Speaking of medical students and zombies – have you seen the video from the 1940’s called, ‘ Experiments in the Revival of Organisms’.  If you haven’t here is the run down – and yes, the video.

It was the first public U.S. showing of a film picturing an experiment by Soviet biologists. They drained the blood from a dog. Fifteen minutes after its heart had stopped beating, they pumped the blood back into its lifeless body with a machine called an autojector, serving as artificial heart and lungs. Soon the dog stirred, began to breathe; its heart began to beat. In twelve hours it was on its feet, wagging its tail, barking, fully recovered.

Friday night Jason, his wife Mylie, my wife Jenny Lou, and Myself went to see the production of Evil Dead the Musical at the Generic Theater. We arrived to find that the theater was nearly at capacity, which I thought was amazing, considering that this was the second week of the show and it was still selling out. We were lucky enough to find some seats in the back, away from the splatter zone. As we sat in anticipation for the show to begin the room filled the rest of the way and the performance was ready to begin.

Oderus Urungus, of the band Gwar was the star of the opening video for the show, asking everyone to “turn off your motherfucking cell phones”. He also did the introduction to the performance, reading the opening lines from the film Evil Dead 2 explaining the Necronomicon.  From that point we get into the performance, which starts with 4 college kids in a car driving to a cabin in the woods. Que the first musical number comedic-ally called “Cabin in the Woods”.

The rest of the show goes off with out a hitch, from trees raping a girl, to Ash cutting of his hand with a chainsaw, and decapitating his girlfriend, with musical numbers like “What the Fuck Was That?”, “Bit Part Demon”, “Good Old Reliable Jake” (which was a show stealer!) and  “All the Men In My Life Keep Getting Killed By Candarian Demons”. The cast was great in every aspect. Travis Malone played “Ash” and pulled it off very well, Michelle Jenkins played Ash’s sister “Cheryl” who plays the part of a demon to a T. But one of the most memorable performances was from Garney Johnson in the part of the smelly redneck “Jake” I found myself laughing at nearly everything he said or did the entire performance.

We here at Zombie Popcorn had a GREAT time at Evil Dead the Musical, and would suggest going to see it while you still can. I for one will be seeing it again, maybe even sitting in the splatter zone next time! Here are the date for anyone considering going to see it.

October 16 – November 8, 2009
Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm
Sunday at 2:30pm

Special Showing: Two performances on Halloween Night (October 31, 2009) at 8:00pm and 11:00pm. Just Added! Thursday, October 29, 2009 and Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 8:00pm

Below I have posted a picture of Jason and I with the cast.

Just got an update from the first ever zombie walk in Virginia Beach.

It was a huge success, well, if you consider a zombie outbreak terrorizing the beach community a success.  It was such a frightening event the Ghostbusters made an appearance. I guess they were going to keep the zombies in order.

Zombies came out of the woodwork for this crawl and they all brought a can good to help fight hunger.  The reports said it was such a success they are going to do it again next year so planning is in the works!

A big thanks to Gordan’s Life Photography for the photos of the zombie walk and to Stitch-Blue for organizing this wonderful event!

Now here is the slide show – Enjoy!!

Word on the streets is that the new Mad Max 4: Fury Road film is going to star Sam Worthington as Mad Max along side of Charlize Theron.

I love the Mad Max series.  I can remember watching them every year when they came on TV and would rent the VHS.  I also remember when Beyond Thunderdome came out and me and my dad would watch it together.   I have very fond memories of this film so I look forward to seeing a new film to the series.

Mad Max 4: Fury Road will be directed by George Miller – he directed Mad Max, Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and Happy Feet.  Which is good because the rumour is that Mad Max 4 is set to follow Beyond Thunderdome and not to be a re-boot/remake.

That is all the info I have at the moment – I will keep you posted!

I just found this trailer on-line and I gotta say it looks soooo bad that I might just have to see it. I think the thing that made me want to see it the most is the catch phrase at the end of the trailer.

It almost looks like a joke, or one of those PSA’s about not smoking weed because you will lose your friends, and throw your life away. But from what I can tell this is actually a movie that is coming out sometime this month. This should make some good conversation for Zombie Popcorn Radio!
