I think the main draw of LJ for me lies in the communities (MANY of them!) and the friend page. XD I hear there've been some troubles regarding deletion of content and users not feeling like they're being heard, though.

LiveJournal is a great place to start if you are learning to blog. With tutorials and LOTS of blogs to read it's a great jumping off point for beginners.
Live journal is a fantastic blog to start with. Thousands of people blogging and sharing their views is just amazing
